Dear Creo Family,

The moment we expected but hoped would never come is here — Creo College Prep will remain closed and students will continue Distance Learning until the end of the school year — June 26. 

While we hoped and intended for a very different last three months of fifth grade, we have a plan. 

Here is what we will do:

  1. Continue Distance Learning, every day, 9am - 3pm. We can’t send our students to school, so we will continue to send the school to them. As long as your family wants a Creo education, a Creo education will be available for your family. 

  2. Continue social-emotional supports for our students, including daily small-group advisory check-ins with every student and counseling sessions.

  3. Continue to support you with accessing technology and critical services, including food, internet, and technology.

Here is what we will not do:

  1. We don’t give up. A year ago, our school had never existed. By last month, our students received as much instructional time as a DOE school has in an entire year. We still have 48 days of school left, and we’re going to use it to do great things, together. 

  2. We don’t lower our bar. We still expect every student to be in class, every single day. We still expect them to try their best on their work. We still expect them to be consistently kind to their classmates, their teachers, and their families. 

  3. We don’t pretend this is normal. We know that many of you are working on the frontlines of this crisis, in hospitals and grocery stores, on trains and buses, in danger and in our thoughts. Some of us are caring for the sick, some of us are grieving the lost. Our first concern is making sure our children are safe. If we can help reduce stress — around deadlines, promotion to 6th grade, technology access, food — we are here for you. 

At Creo, you’ve seen us wear and say “Creo in the Bronx.” I believe in the Bronx. Now, that is true more than ever. Together, we made a new school. We will not be back in the same building until next school year, but the school is not the building. 

Today, we can say this: Creo in Creo. I believe in Creo. In your living rooms and kitchens, our kids continue to learn. In their living rooms and kitchens, our teachers continue to teach. 

It is normal to feel grief and frustration, because we are all experiencing loss, every day. We wish it were different, but so does everyone in these times. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. 

If you need time to process, to grieve, to care for your family, take it. If you need us, we will be where we have been since August 28th: building knowledge, skills, and character, educating your student to thrive in college and to assume responsibility for identifying and solving problems in our community and our world.

El momento que esperábamos pero que nunca quieranos que llegará, esta aquí: Creo College Prep permanecerá cerrado y los estudiantes continuarán el aprendizaje a distancia hasta el final del año escolar, 26 de junio. 

Mientras esperábamos y teníamos la intención de diferentes últimos tres meses de quinto grado, tenemos un plan. 

Esto es lo que haremos:

  1. Continuar el aprendizaje a distancia, todos los días, de 9 a.m. a 3 p.m. No podemos enviar a nuestros estudiantes a la escuela, por lo que continuaremos enviándoles la escuela. Mientras su familia quiera una educación Creo, habrá una educación Creo disponible para su familia. 

  2. Continuar con el apoyo social y emocional para nuestros estudiantes, incluidos los controles diarios de asesoramiento en grupos pequeños con cada estudiante y sesiones de asesoramiento.

  3. Continuar apoyándolo con el acceso a la tecnología y los servicios críticos, incluidos alimentos, internet y tecnología.

Esto es lo que no haremos:

  1. Nos no rendimos. Hace un año, nuestra escuela nunca había existido. Para el mes pasado, nuestros estudiantes recibieron tanto tiempo de instrucción como una escuela del DOE en un año entero. Todavía nos quedan 48 días de escuela, y lo vamos a usar para hacer grandes cosas, juntos. 

  2. No bajamos nuestra barra. Todavía esperamos que todos los estudiantes estén en clase, todos los días. Todavía esperamos que hagan todo lo posible en su trabajo. Todavía esperamos que sean consistentemente amables con sus compañeros de clase, sus maestros y sus familias. 

  3. No pretendemos que esto sea normal. Sabemos que muchos de ustedes están trabajando en la primera línea de esta crisis, en hospitales y supermercados, en trenes y autobuses, en peligro y en nuestros pensamientos. Algunos cuidamos a los enfermos, otros lamentamos a los perdidos. Nuestra primera preocupación es asegurarnos de que nuestros hijos estén seguros. Si podemos ayudar a reducir el estrés (alrededor de los plazos, promoción sexto grado, acceso a la tecnología, alimentos), estamos aquí para ustedes. 

En Creo, nos has visto usar y decir "Creo en el Bronx". Yo creo en el Bronx. Ahora, eso es verdad más que nunca. Juntos, hicimos una nueva escuela. No volveremos al mismo edificio hasta el próximo año escolar, pero la escuela no es el edificio. 

Hoy podemos decir esto: Creo en Creo. Yo creo en Creo. En sus salas y cocinas, nuestros niños continúan aprendiendo. En sus salas y cocinas, nuestros maestros continúan enseñando. 

Es normal sentir pena y frustración, porque todos experimentamos pérdidas todos los días. Deseamos que fuera diferente, pero también lo hacen todos en estos tiempos. Todo lo que tenemos que decidir es qué hacer con el tiempo que se nos da. 

Si necesita tiempo para procesar, para llorar, para cuidar a su familia, tómelo. Si nos necesita, estaremos donde hemos estado desde el 28 de Agosto, la construcción de los conocimientos, habilidades y carácter, la educación de su hijo a prosperar en la universidad y para asumir la responsabilidad de identificar y resolver problemas en nuestra comunidad y nuestro mundo.
